Welcome to Mrs Barnard's e-safety website. Cyberbullying is becoming a huge problem with children and adults. There are many types of cyberbullying including; email, sending messages on mobile phones, instant messenger, chatrooms, social network sites and interactive gaming. If you have been cyberbullied you will understand how it leaves you feeling alone and vulnerable. If you have been subjected to any type of cyberbullying you need to tell an adult straight away to resolve this problem. It may be difficult to share this with an adult and you may feel the problem will get worse, however adults can help as you will hear in the statement on page 2. This was a recording of a Year 5 child (voice changed) who was subjected to cyber bullying.
You may have a mobile phone and text your friends. Just be careful with your wording as a text could sound different to how you mean it to be and you could be misunderstood. Not that long ago I sent a text to a friend of mine, to me it was a friendly message, however it was read in a different way. Luckily, my friend spoke to me later that day and told me that she thought that I was annoyed with her. We laughed and I explained what it meant. This highlights how easily you can be misunderstood and a huge amount of trouble could come out of just one innocent message.
If at anytime you feel a message could be misunderstood just talk to the friend instead. Hearing someones voice will show feelings on the telephone.
This website is not to scare you away from the internet or any ict equipment I just want you to be aware of the possible dangers. Enjoy this website and share your knowledge with adults and friends.
